Jacksonville Transportation Authority Announces Nearly 200 Layoffs Amid $39 Million Budget Shortfall
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 17, 2026
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is laying off nearly 200 employees across administrative and operational roles as part of efforts to close a $39 million budget gap. The cuts include 44 administrative and up to 150 operations positions, following earlier rounds of layoffs in December and February. JTA will also slash transit services, including shutting down its Skyway system — a move projected to save $10 million — and suspending NAVI shuttle service. The agency has faced ongoing financial scrutiny, including reports of delinquent bills and credit card misuse.
