Biopharma Job Postings Rise 15% YoY in Q2 2026 as Layoff Volume Drops

BioSpace's Q2 2026 job market report shows biopharma job postings on the platform climbed 15% year over year and 12% quarter over quarter, marking the third consecutive quarterly increase. Layoffs declined sharply, with only 26 companies cutting staff versus 64 in Q2 2025, though the number of employees affected fell just 5%. M&A and IPO activity surged in H1 2026, with 52 deals compared to roughly 30 in H1 2025, while broader U.S. job creation missed forecasts significantly — June added only 57,000 jobs against a consensus estimate of 115,000. Industry experts remain divided on whether a full biopharma hiring rebound has begun or remains a 2027 story.
