AI Is Reshaping GTM Entry-Level Careers as SDR/BDR Roles Contract
NewsData.io · United States · Aug 12, 2026
AI-driven sales tooling is quietly shrinking entry-level GTM headcount through attrition rather than mass layoffs — when a junior SDR leaves, the role often isn't backfilled because AI handles prospecting and qualification. An Emergence Capital survey of 560+ B2B software companies found 36% cut sales development teams in 2025, and internal promotion rates from SDR to AE have dropped significantly. For staffing firms placing sales and revenue roles, this signals declining demand for transactional junior sales talent while creating new demand for hybrid roles that blend light AE responsibility with AI-assisted workflows. Organizations that deliberately manage their junior talent pipeline now will face less bench-depth risk in three to five years.
