UVM Health to Eliminate 199 Jobs in Third Layoff Round Since Mid-2025

University of Vermont Health Network is cutting 199 positions across its regional system in late October, its third layoff round since July 2025. The cuts, concentrated at UVM Medical Center (118 positions), are projected to save $16.8 million as the system faces a major budget shortfall, regulatory price-cut mandates, and anticipated Medicaid reductions. About a quarter of eliminated roles will be restructured into new positions that affected staff can apply for. Healthcare staffing firms operating in Vermont and the broader Northeast should anticipate increased candidate flow from this and ongoing cost-reduction pressure across hospital systems nationally.
