Paramount-Warner Merger Cleared; 10,000+ Film Jobs at Risk

A federal judge approved a five-year settlement clearing the way for Paramount's $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, ending the principal legal obstacle to one of Hollywood's largest media consolidations. The settlement requires the combined company to release at least 30 theatrical films annually, spend $1.5 billion on U.S. production, and establish a $47.5 million fund for displaced workers — but Paramount has told investors it plans to extract more than $6 billion in savings from the merger. Los Angeles County analysis estimates approximately 10,360 job-years in film and television could be lost, along with $1.26 billion in wages. Staffing firms serving the entertainment sector should anticipate significant displacement activity and potential candidate flow from production, post-production, and studio operations roles.
