Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger Clears Final Hurdle with State Settlement, Including Worker Displacement Fund

Twelve states and the Writers Guild of America settled their antitrust lawsuits against the $81 billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, clearing the path for the deal to close. Among the settlement terms, Paramount pledged $47.5 million for training and career development of workers displaced by the merger, along with commitments to increase domestic film production by at least $1.5 billion over five years. Critics, including former FTC officials, warned that layoffs across Hollywood and related industries are likely to follow the consolidation of two of the five remaining major studios. The settlement still requires judicial approval.
