Feds Propose 'Trump Account' Regulations Amid Growing Retirement Anxiety Among Gen X Workers
HR Dive · United States · Aug 20, 2026
The IRS and Treasury have issued proposed regulations for 'Trump Accounts' (530A accounts), a new tax-deferred savings vehicle for U.S. children born between 2025 and 2029, with a $1,000 federal seed contribution. Employer interest is currently limited, partly because the accounts likely won't fall under ERISA. The news coincides with mounting retirement insecurity among Gen X workers — nearly 40% say their retirement plans are at risk, per a recent Zety report — and a PwC survey finding 59% of employees are financially stressed, signaling continued pressure on compensation and benefits strategies relevant to staffing and HR clients.
