AI Drives Demand for Experienced Tech Workers as Cybersecurity Roles Shift Upmarket

A survey of more than 500 CISOs by IANS Research and Artico Search finds that over 80% believe AI will create demand for new cybersecurity roles rather than shrink headcount, but the nature of those roles is shifting sharply toward experienced candidates with business acumen and sound judgment. AI is absorbing entry-level tasks like alert triage and log review, displacing junior positions while organizations seek seasoned professionals to oversee AI outputs and manage complex threats. U.S. cybersecurity job postings ticked up to 13,923 in August from 13,169 in July, per CompTIA, though some CISOs are pausing hiring to evaluate AI agent performance. Industry observers warn that hollowing out entry-level pipelines risks a long-term talent gap.
