Williams-Sonoma Allocates $10M in Tariff Refunds to Employee 401(k)s
HR Dive · United States · Sep 1, 2026
Williams-Sonoma is directing $10 million of its roughly $200 million in IEEPA tariff refunds toward one-time 401(k) contributions for employees who helped the company navigate supply chain disruptions during the tariff period. The retailer is also reimbursing vendor partners $47.5 million for discounts extended during the tariff crisis. The move highlights an emerging trend of companies sharing tariff refund windfalls with workers and suppliers rather than absorbing them into margins or passing savings to consumers. For staffing and HR professionals, this signals growing employer interest in one-time, non-recurring compensation mechanisms tied to business performance events.
