UPMC Enterprises Invests in VeloSource Locum Tenens and Syncx Platform
PRWeb (General Business) · United States · Oct 14, 2026
UPMC Enterprises, the innovation arm of UPMC, has made a strategic investment in VeloSource, a St. Louis-based locum tenens staffing firm, and its technology partner Syncx, an AI-enabled workforce management platform. The investment will fund expansion of VeloSource's contingent staffing capabilities — including VMS, MSP, physician float pool, and ATS offerings — designed to help health systems manage internal and external clinical staffing more efficiently. UPMC Enterprises will hold a board seat, and UPMC physician Richard Wadas will become Chief Medical Officer at VeloSource. With a projected national physician shortfall of 141,160 by 2038 and roughly 56,000 locum tenens physicians currently active, this deal signals growing institutional capital flowing into healthcare contingent staffing technology — a space recruiters and staffing firms should monitor for both competitive pressure and partnership opportunity.
