Unionized Allina Health Hospital Doctors Reach Tentative Deal After Historic 4-Day Strike

About 150 hospital doctors at Allina Health's Mercy Hospital and Unity campus have reached a tentative first labor contract with the health system following a four-day strike — believed to be the first by private-sector hospital physicians in U.S. history. The agreement, reached after three years and 66-plus negotiation sessions, includes a grievance process, greater professional autonomy, and noncompete release in layoff scenarios, though the union conceded on paid sick leave. The deal must still be ratified by union members and comes amid broader labor unrest at Allina, which is also facing scrutiny over a proposed $26 billion merger with California's Sutter Health.
