Uber to Lay Off 3,300 Employees — 10% of Global Workforce

Uber Technologies is cutting approximately 3,300 employees, or 10% of its global workforce, in its largest reduction since the pandemic-era layoffs of May 2020. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi cited the need to flatten management layers and reduce organizational complexity built during rapid growth, with savings earmarked for reinvestment in robotaxi and autonomous vehicle capabilities. The cuts will reduce staff at seven or more reporting layers below the CEO by 20% and nearly halve teams with only one or two direct reports. The layoffs reflect broader pressure on tech-sector employment, with more than 123,000 cuts logged across nearly 390 companies so far this year.
