Uber Laying Off 3,300 Employees — 10% of Global Workforce
TechCrunch (Layoffs) · United States · Sep 2, 2026
Uber is cutting approximately 3,300 employees, representing 10% of its global headcount, as part of a restructuring aimed at reducing management layers and streamlining operations. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the layoffs internally, noting the company will shrink manager headcount by 20%, eliminate small teams, and cut roles more than seven layers below the CEO. Engineering, science, and delivery divisions are being merged, and remote work will be eliminated for all but less than 1% of staff. The move signals a broader tech-sector trend of delayering organizations and reducing remote flexibility, both of which affect placement demand and candidate availability for staffing firms serving tech clients.
