Starbucks Cuts 200+ Corporate Roles in Ongoing Turnaround Restructuring
NewsData.io · United States · Aug 28, 2026
Starbucks is laying off more than 200 corporate employees — including approximately 120 technology staff who declined to relocate to Nashville and 104 positions in coffeehouse design — as part of CEO Brian Niccol's 'Back to Starbucks' strategy targeting $2 billion in cost reductions by fiscal 2028. The cuts are focused on corporate operations and do not involve café closures or store-level headcount. North America comparable sales rose 8.1% in the latest quarter, suggesting early momentum in the turnaround. Starbucks has already eliminated roughly 1,100 support roles in 2025 and expects approximately $400 million in total restructuring charges.
