Regional Jobseekers Face Uneven Hiring Landscape in Northeastern Minnesota

NewsData.io · United States · Jul 30, 2026

A new Minnesota DEED survey of 316 workforce professionals — including 31 serving northeastern Minnesota — finds 41% of regional respondents say clients are having a harder time finding work than a year ago, with conditions varying sharply by occupation. Food service, health care support, and skilled trades were among the easiest sectors to enter, while education, management, and IT roles grew considerably harder to obtain. Counselors flagged housing, childcare, transportation, and wage mismatches as additional barriers, and noted growing AI use in job searches is widening the gap for digitally underserved jobseekers. The findings align with rising unemployment and a contracting regional labor force tracked by DEED analysts.
