Only 4% of CHROs Feel Very Prepared to Lead AI-Driven Workforce Change
HR Dive · United States · Oct 7, 2026
The Conference Board's Q3 CHRO Confidence Index found that just 4% of U.S. CHROs feel very prepared to manage AI-driven workplace change over the next two years, with difficulty predicting AI's workforce impacts cited as the primary barrier. While most respondents said their organizations have adjusted workforce planning processes because of AI, only 19% have fully incorporated AI's anticipated effects into enterprise-wide workforce and financial planning. CHROs remain broadly optimistic about hiring plans, though the overall workforce outlook is growing more cautious as economic growth slows. For staffing firms, this widespread CHRO uncertainty signals continued demand for external workforce planning support and skills-gap solutions as clients struggle to integrate AI into talent strategy.
