New Report: AI-Assisted Candidate Fraud Now Nearly Universal, Posing Challenges for Staffing Recruiters
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 17, 2026
A new report from RefAssured, based on a survey of 646 jobseekers, staffing recruiters, and corporate HR professionals, finds that candidate fraud is surging — 95% of staffing recruiters say they have personally caught a candidate misrepresenting qualifications, and 76% say fraud is more common than three years ago. AI tools are a key driver, with 74% of jobseekers admitting to using generative AI to write or edit their resumes and 78% believing those tools make it easier to appear qualified for roles they haven't held. Trust in AI-powered screening to catch fraud remains low, with only 11% of staffing recruiters fully trusting AI screening tools without a human in the loop.
