New Jersey Launches Employee Separation Reporting Portal with 7-Day Deadline

New Jersey's Division of Unemployment Insurance Employer Response Portal is now live, requiring all covered employers to report employee separations — including layoffs, terminations, resignations, and retirements — within seven days of the separation date. The mandate, enacted under NJ Public Law Chapter 120 (S2357) in 2023, was delayed while the state built the system. Submissions must include separation reason, last day worked, wage and scheduling details, and supervisor contact information. Staffing agencies placing workers in New Jersey should verify portal eligibility, establish internal reporting workflows, and ensure HR and payroll staff have portal access and training.
