Monster Report: Job Descriptions Should Highlight Workplace Experience, Not Just Responsibilities
HR Dive · United States · Sep 17, 2026
A Monster Workforce Mobility Report analyzing nearly 1 million job transitions found that 63% of movers retained the same job title at a new employer, meaning many applicants already know what the role entails. The report advises HR and talent acquisition teams to shift job descriptions toward compensation, scheduling, management, and advancement opportunities rather than listing standard duties. Monster also cautions against friction-heavy hiring processes that may deter experienced candidates who have little incentive to endure redundant steps for a lateral move. Separately, Indeed Hiring Lab data shows a gap between employees' desire for workplace learning (67%) and employer prioritization of it (48%), flagging a retention risk.
