Indiana State Police Seeks $30M Federal Grant Tied to Immigration Enforcement Under New DOJ Program
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 10, 2026
Indiana State Police has applied for nearly $30 million through the DOJ's BIDEN grant program, created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, to fund surveillance technology, vehicles, and investigative tools that support ICE cooperation under the 287(g) program. As of September, 217 ISP troopers are certified under the agreement, and the agency has participated in 276 detainments. The grant signals a significant expansion of state-level immigration enforcement infrastructure, with implications for workforce demand in law enforcement staffing and the broader immigrant labor pool. Advocacy groups have raised concerns that the structure allows ISP to avoid legislative oversight while effectively deepening its immigration enforcement capacity.
