Heather Rene Armstead, COO of an Indiana healthcare staffing firm serving senior living homes, was sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud, access device fraud, and money laundering. Armstead opened an unauthorized business checking account in the company's name, redirected customer payments into it, and took out unauthorized loans — stealing more than $400,000 in total. She must pay $245,007 in restitution and will serve three years of supervised release following her prison term. The case highlights internal financial control risks for staffing agency owners, particularly at firms with senior-care sector exposure.
