Gartner Analyst: 4 Forces Reshaping Talent Acquisition Right Now
HR Dive · United States · Oct 28, 2026
At the 2026 Gartner HR Symposium, senior director analyst Jamie Kohn outlined four trends disrupting recruiting: AI agents acting on behalf of candidates, rising acceptance of AI in screening amid soaring application volumes, recruiter-built tech tools creating governance challenges, and outdated performance metrics for TA teams. Kohn noted application volume has more than doubled in two years, partly driven by bots, while employers report growing difficulty identifying high-quality candidates. Staffing firms should pay particular attention to the AI-agent trend — by 2029, one in four candidates may be represented by an AI agent, requiring firms to restructure job content and employer branding for machine-readable consumption.
