Flock Safety Tries to Shrink 1,500-Person Workforce via Employee Buyouts
TechCrunch · United States · Sep 19, 2026
Surveillance tech startup Flock Safety is offering voluntary buyout packages to employees amid mounting backlash over misuse of its license plate recognition technology. The company expects significant interest among its 1,500-person workforce and says it will grant buyouts to a majority of those who apply. Without the buyouts, Flock would 'almost certainly' need to conduct layoffs, according to Wired. The move follows Florida and Texas dropping the product and 90 cities departing in August alone.
