Flock Safety Cuts 270 Staff (18%) Amid Privacy Backlash
TechCrunch (Layoffs) · United States · Oct 9, 2026
Surveillance camera maker Flock is reducing its workforce by approximately 18%, or around 270 employees, through a voluntary separation program, with departures set for the end of October. The company cited the move as positioning itself for future growth, though the cuts come amid mounting public and legislative backlash against its license plate reader network and mass surveillance practices. Several major law enforcement clients, including the LAPD, have allowed contracts to lapse over privacy concerns, shrinking Flock's addressable market. Recruiters serving the public safety tech and surveillance sectors may see an uptick in available candidates from this round of cuts.
