California Bills Would Bar Former ICE Agents from State and Local Government Jobs
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 5, 2026
California lawmakers have passed legislation that would disqualify individuals with prior immigration enforcement experience from working in state, county, or local public agencies — a first-of-its-kind policy in the U.S. A companion bill would also close a loophole allowing current law enforcement officers to moonlight with federal immigration agencies. Both bills await Governor Newsom's signature or veto. For staffing firms placing public-sector workers or operating in California's government and law enforcement recruitment space, the measures would significantly narrow the eligible candidate pool.
