BambooHR Study: Workers Lose 20 Days a Year Troubleshooting AI, With HR Adoption Outpacing Governance
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 1, 2026
BambooHR's new report, based on 1,600+ U.S. full-time workers including 520 HR professionals, finds that while employees spend roughly 47 workdays per year using AI, nearly 20 of those days are lost to troubleshooting errors and prompt iteration rather than productive output. A notable hiring-specific gap emerged: 67% of HR professionals would trust AI to conduct a candidate interview autonomously, yet 80% of that same group admit to finding bias problems in AI hiring tools. The study also flags significant governance failures — 54% of organizations lack a documented AI usage policy, and 71% of workers using personal AI accounts for work have entered sensitive company data into tools their employer cannot monitor. For staffing professionals, the data signals that AI adoption in recruiting is accelerating faster than responsible guardrails are being established.
