Arizona Prison With Unreported Sex Abuse to Reopen as ICE Detention Center
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 29, 2026
Arizona State Prison–Marana, operated by Management and Training Corporation (MTC), is set to reopen as an ICE immigration detention facility with capacity nearly tripled to roughly 1,300 beds, despite a whistleblower alleging that top prison officials concealed multiple sexual abuse incidents from a federally mandated PREA audit in 2023. A former MTC employee says the warden was directly informed of the allegations but the published audit reported zero incidents of sexual abuse or harassment. The facility was closed in 2023, sold back to MTC in 2025, and is now part of DHS efforts to expand immigration detention bed space. Staffing firms and contractors placing workers at ICE detention facilities should be aware of MTC's compliance history and the potential for heightened regulatory scrutiny at this site.
