AI Is Fueling Demand for Finance Talent, Not Replacing It, Toptal Report Finds
NewsData.io · United States · Aug 20, 2026
Toptal's High-skilled Job Report for Q2 2026 found demand for experienced finance consultants surged 31% quarter over quarter and 39% year over year, the strongest gain across all 10 professional segments the firm tracks. The report attributes the jump partly to robust financial market activity — rising bank earnings, IPOs, and M&A — and partly to AI adoption itself, as companies now need expert human judgment to evaluate AI deployments, assess risks, and validate ROI. A separate Robert Half survey reinforces the trend: 32% of hiring managers who eliminated roles after implementing AI later rehired for the same or similar positions, with finance showing the highest rehire rate at 44%. Toptal projects healthy finance talent demand to continue into Q3, with compliance and governance expertise in particular demand.
