AI Interviewers Now Used by 63% of Job Seekers' Experience, Reshaping Early-Stage Recruiting
NewsData.io · United States · Sep 16, 2026
A Greenhouse survey of 2,950 active job seekers found that 63% have been interviewed by an AI system, a figure that grew 13% in just six months. Employers are adopting AI interviewers primarily to handle surging application volumes — LinkedIn data shows U.S. applicants per open role have doubled since spring 2022 — and to compensate for leaner recruiting teams. Industry voices note significant limitations: AI interviewers struggle with follow-up questions, nuance, empathy, and accessibility for neurodivergent candidates or those with distinct accents, raising concerns about bias and candidate drop-off. Staffing firms and in-house recruiters should expect AI screening to become a standard early-funnel step and prepare candidates accordingly.
