AI Interview Summaries Create Compliance and Bias Risks Recruiters May Overlook
HR Dive · United States · Sep 18, 2026
A new analysis from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas warns that AI notetakers and transcription tools used in recruiting are generating permanent records of candidate interactions that hiring teams may not be prepared to manage. Hiring managers increasingly rely on AI-generated summaries to evaluate candidates without reviewing full interviews, raising concerns about accuracy, bias, and legal exposure around recording consent laws. A Paylocity survey found over 90% of HR managers already use AI in recruitment, yet four in five report actively managing at least one issue with their AI tools. Legal counsel has flagged particular risks around workplace monitoring compliance and the potential for AI summaries to strip context and nuance from candidate assessments.
