ADP Reports First Rebound in U.S. Private-Sector Hiring After Seven Weeks of Decline

NewsData.io · United States · Aug 18, 2026

ADP Research's weekly NER Pulse shows U.S. private-sector employers added an average of 9,500 jobs per week for the four weeks ending August 1, 2026 — the first increase after seven consecutive weeks of decline. The improvement is modest; the current pace remains less than one-third of the 30,750 weekly average recorded in early June. ADP's broader monthly report showed only 44,000 private-sector jobs added in July, well below the 109,000–122,000 gains seen in April and May. Staffing firms should note that while the deterioration may be pausing, overall hiring momentum remains significantly subdued, with the next NER Pulse due August 25 offering a clearer signal.
