NYC 'Delivery Protection Act' Would Bar Third-Party Delivery Contractors, Threatening Thousands of Jobs
NewsData.io · United States · Aug 12, 2026
Proposed New York City legislation sponsored by Councilwoman Tiffany Cabán would require last-mile warehouse operators to obtain city licenses and meet new safety, training, and employment standards — effectively restricting the use of third-party delivery companies. Amazon, which uses over 40 third-party delivery partners employing more than 5,000 workers in NYC, warns the bill could eliminate those jobs and force it to relocate operations outside the city. A business-commissioned study estimates the legislation could cost NYC households an additional $664 annually. The bill has drawn opposition from the New York Delivers Coalition while receiving support from Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
