Inflation Outpaces Southern California Pay Raises for First Time in Three Years
NewsData.io · United States · Aug 10, 2026
Southern California private-sector wages grew just 2.8% annually in Q2 2026 — the smallest gain in nine years — while U.S. inflation surged 3.8%, eroding workers' buying power for the first time since Q1 2023. The wage slowdown coincides with weak hiring: the region added workers at a pace 89% below its post-2010 average. Nationally, the picture is similarly soft, with 3.1% wage growth trailing inflation by nearly a full percentage point and hiring running 77% below post-recession norms.
